NAMI Georgia is Seeking CIT-Youth Instructors

Apply To Become A CIT-Youth Instructor!

The CIT-Youth program addresses the need for specialized training for law enforcement personnel and educators that is focused exclusively on youth. The training is designed to be administered by a team of mental health professionals and law enforcement representatives who have relevant expertise, leadership abilities, and regional knowledge.

Curriculum includes:

  • Adolescent behaviors and development
  • Crisis intervention, de-escalation, and communication techniques appropriate for youth
  • Working with families
  • Legal issues
  • Community resources for youth and families
  • Most common emotional disorders and circumstances experienced by youth that can lead to crisis

Applicants should meet one of these specifications:

Law enforcement officers who have previously undergone standard CIT training, who understand the basic principles and concepts of CIT, and who are POST IT certified. (This is an approved POST credit course).


Mental health professionals with clinical expertise in adolescent mental health and experience in training. (CE’s available for LCSW/LMSW and LPC’s).

Training sessions are a 3-day commitment. Overnight lodging costs may be covered based on travel distance. If the applicant has not received approval in writing prior to the training, costs will not be covered. Approval is not automatic.
