NAMI Central Georgia
By Paula Karsti, Executive Director
NAMI Central Georgia, located in Warner Robins, is the only NAMI affiliate in Georgia that owns and operates a residential group home, dedicated to serving individuals and families affected by mental illness. NAMI Central Georgia has been serving the community for over 32 years and continues to make unique s
trides in mental health. Our residential home houses 12 individuals and our apartment complex houses 3 high functioning individuals with mental health conditions. Our mental health technicians and proxy caregivers insure all of our client’s needs are meet. Our services include medication management, life skills, trainings lead by certified peer specialists, community integration, management of all doctor appointments, gardening as a form of medically recognized therapy, counseling, drug testing and a host of activities to name a few. Our transportation service provides our clients and participants from the Mental Health Court a way to get to their appointments and classes offered by NAMI Central Georgia and our partners at the Phoenix Center.
In addition to NAMI signature programs like NAMI Basics, NAMI Homefront, NAMI Family to Family, and NAMI Connection Recovery Support Group, NAMI Central Georgia also offers classes to clients seeking independence to include budgeting and understanding medication.
Our 7 acres of land was donated to us by the city of Warner Robins. A $20k Community Development Block grant from HUD and the city of Warner Robins help us to provide our unique services. We are proud of the fact our residential program is not transitional.
Our clients can stay as long as they want. It’s our way of assuring parents and loved ones their family member will always have a place to call home, specific to their mental health needs long after they are gone. We cater our services to meet the unique needs of each individual.
Our immediate goals are to expand our housing, membership, facilitate more NAMI programming, and continue our work with the Houston County Superior Court- Mental Health program. We invite you to visit our facility at the 2019 Leadership & Recovery Symposium on May 18th in Macon. Hope to see you soon!
