NAMI National Convention Recap – educate, empower, engage
Over 30 NAMI Members from Georgia attended the 2017 NAMI National Convention last week in Washington, DC. Affiliates represented were NAMI Cobb, NAMI Moultrie, NAMI Northside Atlanta, NAMI Gwinnett, NAMI Savannah, NAMI FDL, NAMI Albany, NAMI Hall, NAMI Rome, and NAMI DeKalb. On Thursday, June 29, it was NAMI Hill Day, where 1,000 NAMI Members visited Capitol Hill and met with legislators. The message was very clear, “We need more mental health care, not less. Oppose any health reform bill that leaves fewer people with coverage for mental health care.”
Thank you to Lindsey Maxwell, Legislative Correspondent and Gus Youmans, Staff Assistant for meeting with us on behalf of Senator David Perdue and Senator Johnny Isakson. NAMI Georgia and local Affiliates look forward to continuing the conversation on mental health with Georgia legislators and advocating on behalf of our members.
