Find Help, Find Hope!

NAMIWalks Georgia Officially Launched!

Spirits were high at the NAMIWalks Georgia Kickoff on Friday! Making Waves for Mental Health was the theme. Decorations of sunny balloons, beach balls and palm trees set the tone for an exciting event, and a delicious lunch was enjoyed by all.

Community supporters, partners, and CIT officers were present in great numbers. The prestigious panel of speakers included NAMIWalks Georgia Honorary Co-chairs Senator Renee Unterman and Brenda Wood (also Emcee); NAMIWalks Rome Honorary Chair, State Representative Katie Dempsey; Director Vernon Keenan, Georgia Bureau of Investigations; Chief Gary Yandura, Brookhaven PD (and NAMI Georgia Board Member); Chief Lou Dekmar, LaGrange PD and First President of the International Association of Chiefs of Police; Commissioner Judy Fitzgerald, DBHDD; and Brookhaven Mayor John Arthur Ernst, Jr.

National NAMIWalks Manager Kris Eschman and Star Walker Sander Stogner of NAMI Gwinnett shared tips on fundraising and raising awareness of mental health issues in promoting the walk. Helping out were a contingent of AKA members; the Ladies in Pink and Green give so much to all our events!
